Dumfries SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society) had Mother Nature smiling down on them on Saturday 2nd October.  A fundraising Fun Run was due to start at 11am and during registration at Dumfries Sports Club the heavens opened.  However, it dried up in time for the start and stayed dry until even the small children had completed the 3 mile fun run/walk.  The rain poured for the rest of the day so we were very lucky.

77men, women, children and even some dogs turned up to tackle the 3 miles any way they could.  The route followed the cycle path so it was flat enough for buggies and safe from traffic.  Some runners completed the route in impressive times while there was a lot of chatting amongst the walkers.  Children sat in buggies or rode bikes or scooters or even danced along with their friends.  A fun day was had by all.

A total of £432.85 was raised from registration fees and kind donations.  This will help towards our new office in the town centre.  The office gives us a base where we can meet with bereaved parents in privacy and comfort.

Special thanks to Margaret Gray and Stephen Mohan for their hard work in advertising and organising this Fun Run.  Thanks also to Dumfries Running Club for facilitating and advertising the event as well as taking part.  With thanks to Dumfries Sports Club for hosting the event and letting us use the facilities.  A huge thank you to all who turned up and took part (especially those who brought delicious baking) and made the Fun Run such a success.
