Pedal Scotland – Team DG Sands Update
We did it! We all completed the 47 mile cycle from Glasgow to Edinburgh for Pedal Scotland. I think if you had asked the majority of us a year ago if we thought we could do it you would have had a lot of negative responses. We were all extremely committed though, and after a summer of training the 47 miles were conquered!
It was a fantastic day right from the early 5am start! We all met in the car park at police HQ in Dumfries where the vans (loaded with our bikes the night before) were waiting for us. We set off at 6am in order to make our start time of 8.30am. We met again at Glasgow Green for a photo before making our way to the start. It was amazing to see so many people on bikes in one place. We did manage to set off as a team but very quickly split up into smaller teams of riders of the same ability. The weather was perfect for cycling. Dark clouds threatened at times but it never did rain. There were people of all abilities riding and we even saw a man on a uni-cycle! There were plenty of food and water stops along the way and everyone was so friendly and kind with several unexpected donations being picked up en route.
Cycling across the finish line at Murrayfield was a fantastic experience and we were all on a high when we all met up again outside. The journey home was made extra special with a wee glass of fizz as a way of celebration (drivers didn’t partake!).
We have smashed our fundraising target of £1000 – watch this space for the final total.
We couldn’t have done it without the support and dedication of lots of people though. Leanne & Mike Carberry, Maurice Carberry, David Hall, Graham Anderson, Arnold Clark, Stan Dacre, Sylvia Little and the rest of the riders in team D&G Sands. It was a fantastic achievement everyone, thank you. To all our friends, families’ and supporters thank you for your donations.
Roll on next year!
